The Tao of Physics - Fritjof Capra
I've always been curious about my place in the universe. The "why" question. Without any internet - most of these just led to dreaming up stuff - but the hunger remained. But I always wondered - why others don't feel this way. Nobody else seemed to have this question.
Then by some strange coincidence, on a bus ride back home to Nasik from Pune (where I was doing my engineering), I sat next to a "Sardarji" friend who was staying at the same place and studying in Pune. He turned out to be interested in this - and did seem to be quite ahead - he had some answers. And he shared this book.
The book compared eastern mysticism with the science of the west. Fritjof writes about quantum theory as well as the dance of Shiva :). I read this sometime around 1990.
Autobiography Of A Yogi - Yogananda
Among all the spiritual books I've read, this one stands out. It is a simple read that takes one along the journey of Sri Yogananda. Apparently, this is the only book Steve Jobs had in his iPad and this was also given as a gift to all folks who attended his funeral. I read this book in 2005
Be Here Now - Ramdass
A book like no other. For one - it is completely illustrated. And each page talks about a different concept. Not very easy to understand - but each word has the power to Snap/Reset :). Shri Ramdas was a disciple of Neem Karoli Baba, the saint that Steve Jobs met (or did want to meet) when he visited India.
